Yup...only five songs in the set. This was not your usual John
Waite concert. John was not the main draw at this show. Instead, it was a Christmas show,
with the main performers being a local DJ and his wholesome singing family. They were
onstage for most of the show (see left), singing Christmas carols and telling Christmas
stories. Not a rock concert at all--very family-oriented stuff, and many people in the
audience were senior citizens or children. John was the show's "special guest." Seems that the radio station sponsoring the show is a big supporter of John's and has been playing WYWM like crazy. I think John told us they played it 47 times that week! :-) So, amongst the Christmas carols, John and Shane "stopped by" to sing a few songs, with "Change" being a new addition to the set list. I flew from Chicago to Providence to see this show and the whole trek was worth it just to hear "Change." I've never seen "Change" performed live and it's my favorite song of all time, by anybody. It was incredible. Magical. Even acoustic, it totally rocked. I can't tell you how thrilled I am that he played it. Thank you, John! |
