OnlineHost: Your emcees tonight are Judi (AOLiveMC15) and Jo (AOLiveMC7).

AOLiveMC15: Welcome, John Waite!

WYWM in 98: Hello friends....Are there fans from Europe here tonight?

AOLiveMC7: Good evening, John.

WYWM in 98: Good evening to all.

AOLiveMC15: Here's the first question from our audience...

Question: John, I hear conflicting reports as to your favourite track on the new album. "All I Want" or "Let's Get"? Well? And thanks for the recent NY area shows. From - Lizzy the NY redhead

WYWM in 98: Hi Lizzy...how's it going? "Bluebird Cafe" is my current favorite. As I spend more time with the record, I find the more lyrical songs - I like best.

Question: Hi John, tour possibilities, please.

WYWM in 98: Yes, we're trying to put some dates together in the new year...electric and unplugged!

AOLiveMC15: Is there a web site where people can check your tour schedule?

WYWM in 98: Yes, they can do so thru http://www.raize.com/WaiteToons/ That is the unofficial/official web site and is updated weekly. Thanks to the Igniters for putting it together...Hi Elizabeth and Friends.

AOLiveMC15: Here's a comment from a fan...

Comment: I just want you to know that my husband and I are fans and have been since "The Babys"......Those were "our songsz'....and then "Missin You" was our song. I work with a girl from England. She's from Hempel Hempstead?....I luv Englishmen...and women!

WYWM in 98: I just like the women.

Question: Hi John...how old were you when you first knew you had talent????

WYWM in 98: About 13 - I was asked to sing in my brothers band, and we did all the R&B hits and Rolling Stones songs that didn't have more than 3 chords.

Question: What was the genesis of "When You Were Mine"?

WYWM in 98: We'll be playing at the Ocean County Mall, in Toms River, NJ for WJRZ if anyone is from that area... please bring a toy for tots. "When you Were Mine" was actually written for Temple Bar, but it just didn't come together in the studio. It was, however, the blueprint for this project!

Question: John, how is the current music you are doing differ from what you did with the Baby's and Bad English?

WYWM in 98: Good question...there's not that much difference - it's just my style has matured. And having spent a great amount of time playing the acoustic guitar - I decided to make everything more autobiographical --- certainly in the 1st person.

Question: Do you have a greatest hits vol 2?

WYWM in 98: There are enough tracks to warrant volume 2, plus a whole album that I recorded before "Missing You" was released that would make a pretty good CD. We'll see what EMI will want to do in the new year. Anyone from Europe out there?

AOLiveMC7: Let's see if they respond through our queue, John. Here is our next question:

Question: Hey John Dave here...remember we had the same shoes on in Tenn a couple of months ago...any chance that you might record that Vince Gill song for your next CD?

WYWM in 98: Another good question. Vince Gill has some really great songs...whether I could bring anything to them is questionable...he's also a great guitar player. Nice Shoes!!!!!!!!

Question: John... What are some of the issues in the world today that you are most concerned about? (Please tour in Illinois... I missed out on the Chat. Tenn.)

WYWM in 98: The Tibetan movement.

Question: What are you doing for Christmas, are you traveling or staying home?

WYWM in 98: Glenn Burtnick's Christmas show is this Friday at the Bottom Line...I won't be able to make it this year....I'll be in the air (British Airways) drinking champagne! If anyone wants to show up - you should!!!! Glenn's extremely talented and a close friend.

AOLiveMC7: Now we have some from Europe who has sent this:

Question: Samantha in England here (half asleep) - What would you like to see happen with WYWM now it's been on release for over three months?

AOLiveMC7: Excuse me, "someone."

WYWM in 98: Samantha, I don't know if the album is released in Europe yet. But I would love to see it do well there and would love to tour again- WAKE UP!!!! Is Trigger out there...thanks for the Baby's CD.

Question: Years ago I read that you were making an updated version of "Privilege." What happened to it?

WYWM in 98: I couldn't close the deal on the rights...but I actually put together three songs for the project.

Question: What would you say has been one of the most influential figures to you in the development of your music?

WYWM in 98: Me mum.... Hugs to Mum.

AOLiveMC7: :-)

WYWM in 98: Actually, everything influenced me - especially my brother and my cousin Michael. (Michael plays with Temperance 7.)

Question: John: Great show at Darkstar in NYC. Does it bother you when the guys yells out Midnight Rendezvous, & do you feel good about the Baby's albums.

WYWM in 98: I have bad feelings about Chrysalis who own all the rights....to the Baby's catalogue... It was Tommy Mandell, my old keyboard player, that shouted that!

Question: John, what is your most prized possession?

WYWM in 98: My grandfather's gold pocket watch. I would say my Martin guitar but I stepped on it two days ago, and it's in pieces...Ouch!

Question: Just wanted to say how much I have enjoyed your music and lyrics...You seem to be in touch with yourself... was this hard for you to achieve when you felt like an outsider in the States, or did being an outsider help you to find yourself?

WYWM in 98: It's easier to live in a foreign country, especially here in America...You can get lost in NYC.

Question: Many of us are shocked to hear about your recent hair cut ... are you pleased with it???

WYWM in 98: It's too late now..It's kind of skinhead. Is this Toon's question?

AOLiveMC7: Actually that one was from Crystal25. Here is our next question:

Question: I would love hear a album of soul type music like "Show Me How to Love You." Any chance?

WYWM in 98: Why don't we all get skinhead hair cuts? John D's got one too! I'm think at this point of putting more rhythm into the new songs - sort of Otis Redding with loops. I sing in a Blues style..and I think It's probably the most honest thing I could do next. It's a bit like "Missing You."

Question: For a while you left music to paint...where could I see some of your paintings?

WYWM in 98: In my apartment, baby! I never sold any paintings, and unless it's a gift, I try to keep everything I've done...good one!

Question: Earl Slick was a great addition on the No Brakes tour...any chance of you working with him again?

WYWM in 98: I saw Earl in Texas a couple of year ago ,but there's no chance working together again. Sorry.

Question: Are you coming out with any CDs similar to your CD "No Brakes"?

WYWM in 98: I think "No Brakes" is really a great record - it has blues and country while still being a rock record. That's maybe where I'm trying to get to next. That itself was very stripped down.

Question: John, on Ignition we've often played the game of naming which female singer would sound best in a duet with you. Who is your choice? (Mine's Maria McKee.)

WYWM in 98: Maria's great...really she is! I've asked two separate women singers to duet over the last 5 yrs and got turned down by both... it's something I've always wanted to try, but apparently it's very political with the lawyers and managers

Question: John... I loved The Baby's... What inspired the song "I'm Falling"??? I don't take "I'm Falling" as meaning "Falling In Love" but rather as "Falling into a pit of despair"... also, do you intend for your lyrics to be somewhat ambiguous? (I like ambiguous.)

WYWM in 98: I like ambiguous too...you're right about the meaning of the song. The best line in it is "sometimes I love you." Even though I was trying to speak directly - I was using broad symbols to speak simply...nowadays - I'm actually trying to avoid that, as with downtown and bluebird caf.

AOLiveMC7: Folks, our time is drawing to an end.

WYWM in 98: I'd like to thank you all for coming tonight..It was nice to talk to you all...I hope you all have a great holiday and a happy new year... We look forward to seeing you all out on the road.

AOLiveMC7: Thank you, John Waite, for being here with us, and the same wishes to you.

AOLiveMC15: Thanks so much, John. Good night, everybody. Happy holidays!

AOLiveMC7: Good night, all.
