JILL WESTLEY'S STORY:

Thanks to Jill for sharing her story with Net Waite.

I was reading the stories of other fans and thought I'd throw my funny little story in.

Well, I saw that John was going to be playing in Wausau, WI at a really small venue and I could hardly believe it.  But I knew that I would be working that night and probably would not be able to get off to go.  I work in a restaurant and Friday is our busiest night. Anyway, a few weeks went by and I forgot about it. That Friday came and, as usual, we were crazy at the restaurant. One of the young girls who works there came up to me and said there was a group of very odd people sitting at the table in back.  (Now, keep in mind this is central Wisconsin and not L.A.) She didn't know what to make of them. I just smiled and said, "Whatever."

About 20 minutes later, I switched to the section of the restaurant where the "odd" people were. Well, there was John with his spiky hair and sunglasses on and various members of the band and crew.  I couldn't believe it!  I told their waitress who she was serving and she said, "WHO?"  I then felt very old as she is only 17. Only when I sang some of his songs did she know who I meant. They weren't odd, they were rock stars!

Of course, I had to help serve their table then.   I was very professional and cool and managed not to spill anything. By the way, John had the fruit plate. We let them eat in peace but when John left the group early, one of the girls asked for his autograph.  So, I went to talk to him as well. He was so nice and generous with his time and I wished him a good concert and he said he was sorry I had to work and couldn't go. But this was not the end...

When the rest of the group left I was talking with a few of them and they said they would put me on the guest list. I said I was working but the one guy said come after anyway and bring anyone you want. I was thrilled but I didn't know if he was just putting me on. I asked if they were crew and the one guy just smiled and said yeah. Two other girls working saw all this and said I had to go. They covered for me the rest of the night and I still feel like I owe them. So I changed, called a friend and we were off.

We arrived at the venue and, luckily, John was late going on stage so we didn't miss anything,  My name was not on the list at the door. I was disappointed but just happy to have made the concert. I got the nerve to go up to one of the tour people and ask if there was another list and told him who I was and how I got invited. He told me he would see what he could do and asked where we were standing. He found us about twenty minutes later and gave my friend and myself our VIP passes and said my name didn't get passed to the right person. We were in heaven. When the concert started we were right in front right just in front of the bass player. Over on the left was the guy from the restaurant that I thought was crew but it was the guitar player Anthony Krizan. I thought he saw me during the show and later he told me he was trying to get over by me but the lead on his guitar wouldn't reach. He also apologized that my name wasn't at the door. Nice guy.

The concert was fantastic and John's voice was exceptional. Then, towards the end, the guy that gave us our passes found us and said come on with me. He took us up around and we got to watch the rest of the show from the side wing on stage. Waiting there was one of the other girls from the restaurant who had served the guys breakfast. We laughed so hard because we had no idea each other was there but the man with the passes put two and two together and hooked us up.

After the show, we were the first people that got to go and see John and the band. John did a double take and I said I made it anyway. We talked a little about England as I lived there for five years.  I told him that he was so nice but it must get tiring doing the Meet and Greets over and over. He said that if it weren't for his fans, he wouldn't be where he is.  With a very straight face I said, "Exactly." He started to laugh and said, "Touché."

He chatted with the other guys from the band and Anthony said we should hang around until they were done. After a while they came downstairs and said they wanted to go out so we went to a bar in town. John didn't come along and Phil Soussan (the bass player) said he usually doesn't. But we had a great time with the group and I took Phil to a dance club later and had a great time with him. Another very talented and nice guy.

So it was a very memorable night for this girl from Wisconsin. Rock On!

CINDY JONES' STORY:

Thanks to Cindy for sharing her story and pictures with Net Waite.

I arrived in Schofield around 10:45 p.m. on Friday after the looong drive from St. Louis. Not much scenery, a lot of construction and the signs on Highway 51 that said "Watch For Low Flying Planes" then "Watch for Dust On The Road."  I would assume the planes would blow the dust off.

The day of the show, my friend and I rode out to the venue and found it easily on the outskirts of town. We then went back to the restaurant by the hotel. Even though the sign at the bar was announcing "John Waite" and I had a ticket, I was still worried that the show would not take place. But as I was eating my waffle, all of a sudden, I see a couple of the band members I remembered from the Chicago show. Cool, THEY'RE HERE!

We arrived at the bar around 5:15. Got to hear some of the soundcheck.  "Act of Love" and an unreleased song from an upcoming movie. No one is there yet.  The show was to take place outside.  A nice large stage.  The viewing area, I would assume, doubled as a sand volleyball court. If it wasn't so cold out, I could have pretended I was at the beach. My other thought was "large litter box."  I'm glad I had my boots on.

The opening band was very good.  Out of Green Bay, they did original, Country and Popular music. Sorry, but I can't remember their name. Still not a big crowd, but one did finally form by the time John went on. The show itself was fantastic! No sound problems. Everything went smoothly!

Scho-CJ&JW.jpg (18611 bytes) John was his charming self at the Meet  & Greet. Chris (John's manager) finally got a picture of us after a little trouble with the camera. Later, the band came down to the bar and was socializing with everyone. The next morning, I ran into John Waite, Chris, and bassist Phil Soussan at the restaurant. We were leaving as they were coming in. I of course had to tell him what a great show he did. Again, he was his gracious self.

He was a little concerned about his flight and the rain in the area. He had his shades on so I asked if he'd had a hard night. He replied that he crashed after the show. I said I didn't drink well and he replied with, "It makes the mornings a lot easier, doesn't it?" My friend announced her hangover at this point. Their table was ready and we had to hit the road wished them a safe trip and off we went.  John was wearing exercise pants and a sweatshirt with his blazer. Amazingly he pulled this off well.
