Hello! I was "Missing You"--those that couldn't join us for the concert. Well, I had a very interesting weekend all right. Nice to meet fellow online fans Lisa, Doug and Denise. Sorry we didn't spend more time together. The Headlines: Second Show was Awe-Some, two rolls of film being developed, I got to spend a few moments with John at the airport in LA, I spent some time with his manager, Chris, and I got onto the Meet and Greet list thanks to an invite from John himself. Here's the scoop: Turns out I was on the same flight as John and the band. Didn't arrange it or anything, it just happened that way. The band showed up and John showed up last. He comes walking up with that gait he has, no one around him, no one recognizing him. Anyway, so I'm doing some work (yes, I take work everywhere) and I decided after he got his boarding pass I'd go over and say "hi." I introduced myself, got an autograph, told him I was a big fan, I was going to see him up in Vegas, that I grew up in Vegas and that my dad was a musician there, yada, yada, yada.... We talked a bit about the Friday night show and then his having to jump on a Saturday morning flight, etc. He made it a point to tell me he stopped drinking so morning flights were easier, etc. He asked if I was signed up for the M&G after the concert and I explained no with a bit of details as to why. He said he would take care of it. We made some more small talk, mostly about him getting back out on the road and writing lots of new material right now. In total, I would guess we talked about three to four minutes. |
Anyway, his manager Chris came by where my wife and I were sitting and told me that I was on the list now for the M&G, including my wife and the other couple I was bringing. Very cool. On the plane, Chris was sitting next to me and one seat back. We talked off and on during the flight.
The Show: Great Second Show (didn't go to the first one). I will let someone else post the set list. I didn't take notes, I just rocked out! We were in the second row behind Lisa W. and her guy and we had a ball! For my wife and I, the highlight was "Act of Love" (second song). My wife could see it on the set list from where we were sitting. She had asked me before we left if I thought he would play it and I said I doubted it. That song is very special to me and now my wife. When I first started dating her, I fell head over heals in love with her, but I was worried if I was "in too deep." Anyway, that song is one my faves by him and now it is also a fave of my wife!
Overall, I thought John looked good and sounded good and seemed fairly relaxed. Band was solid, if unspectacular (except for Shane, who was great). I thought the drummer and the keyboard player were high school kids with skateboards. They were very young. At first, I thought they were roadies. They held up their end decently, though.

As for the meet and greet, after waiteing a while and moving the meet and great to a different location part of the way into it, my wife and I and Lisa and her main man got to spend some time with JW while my crazy friend and his wife took pics. My wife Diane and I spent a few moments with JW and he remembered me from the airport. My wife, who, if I do say so myself, is a doll, was greeted by kiss on the check from JW as he said "you're beautiful." I told JW to cool it, that she was mine and we all laughed. We told him we loved "Act of Love" and that it was great show. etc. |
I spend a little more time with Chris rapping about nothing particularly significant and then we went for dinner and drinks at what must have been about 1 a.m. So there you go! A Great Weekend!
