Debby Roth meets John Waite

Wow, is all I can say about October 6, 1984. This day ranks right up there with one of the best days of my life! The concert was held at the Civic Center in Poughkeepsie, NY. I had to work and it was general admission.  My friend went early to get us a decent place in line so that as soon the doors opened up, we could charge the stage and be right up front! The concert was excellent!! Of course, Mr. Waite put on one of his usual high- energy, blood-pumping good shows.  Anyone who has ever seen him live knows what I am talking about! After the concert, my friends and I went to the back of the Civic Center in hopes of just a glimpse of him. After waiting for about 15 minutes, there he is!

I was so shocked that I couldn't do a thing, but my friend Shannon says to him as he is walking away, "Hey John, can I take a picture of you with my friend Debby? She has been a fan of yours for six years." I was freaking out because I will now be right next to him.  John puts his arm around me, kisses me on the lips (I *still* can’t believe that one!) and says "Thank you very much."  We pose for the picture and he gives us all an autograph. Then he had to go jump on his bus.

It was a wonderful experience for me to finally meet him after being a fan for years and seeing him in concert and on TV. I was amazed that he took the time to thank us and pose for a picture. Not that I have met many famous people in person, but I have meet a few (or attempted to) and they just didn't care or have the time. John looked rushed like he had to get out of there, but he DID take the time for a few pictures & autographs and it was great that he was so appreciative of his fans!! I'm an even bigger John Waite fan now because of it!
