Thanks to Cindy Jones for sharing her story & pictures with Net Waite.

Well, the anticipated weekend arrived and I left cold rainy St. Louis for warm and sunny Las Vegas. I brought my mom with me (easy Easter/Mother's Day gift). After the flight from hell, there it was...cold and rainy Las Vegas!
We arrived Thursday morning and since we've both seen the sights of Vegas on previous trips, the weather being what it was, we opted to just hang out at the hotel. I must say the employees at the Boulder Station were the most accommodating of all of the places I've stayed in Vegas.

My first memory of my John Waite experience was seeing the posters (like the one at left) promoting the shows and thinking, "Hmmmm, wonder who will get those???" (I'll never tell!) The big day arrived after a little to much family time...mom and I gladly part. I went down a little early found a slot machine and listened to the warm up. It was a pleasure to finally meet everyone: Doreen, Elizabeth and Ray, Scott and Diane, Doug and Zoe. After a couple beverages, it was off to the shows. I have seen John Waite in concert at all phases of his career and this was the most informal venue I have attended. It was very refreshing to see more personality than just the "rock star" persona. Definitely my most memorable show. |
Well, after 21 years of fandom, it was time to actually meet the man whose music has meant so much to me throughout the years.

I brought the poster from the Mask of Smiles LP to have it autographed. I walked up and introduced myself (proper business meeting...my boss would have been proud). Thank God John Waite started talking, telling me the history of the photo shoot for the poster, because I was now suffering from brain death from being so close to him. I'm just standing there, duh, he had to ask me how I enjoyed the show. It was AWESOME. I did manage one sentence and told him about my first Babys concert. He didn't remember the show. Oh, well...memories of life back then are kinda fuzzy in places. Time for an autograph, a picture and a kiss, woo hoo! After a group picture, it was time to eat and sleep. |
After breakfast the next morning, on our way back up to our room, who should our doorman be but John Waite himself, such a gentleman. I again told him what a wonderful show he did, he was very gracious and thanked me. While waiting for the shuttle to the airport, we saw him checking out. Now I'm thinking, "Great, he's thinking, 'Damn can't get away from these people.'" <g>
I can honestly say this was my most memorable Vegas trip!
